About the Ice Fest Clinics

The 2017 Ouray Ice Festival will be held on January 19 – 22.  The Ice Fest Clinic schedule will be posted on November 3, 2016 with the online sale commencing at 0800 on Thursday November 17, 2016. The clinics are very popular and fill up quickly so mark your calendars and make sure to register early!

San Juan Mountain Guides is the Official Concessionaire of the Ouray Ice Park, and each year in collaboration with the Ouray Ice Park Inc., organizes over 80 unique, informative, cutting-edge ice and mixed climbing clinics and seminars. Each clinic/seminar is taught by a mixture of professional athletes and guides – each of whom represent the very best in knowledge and instruction about the clinics we have scheduled them to teach. The clinics are provided and sponsored by vendors such as Black Diamond, Outdoor Research, La Sportiva, The North Face, Patagonia, Mammut, Scarpa, Gore-Tex, and many many more.

  • Use the tabs above to navigate and view the clinics and seminars that are offered on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during the Ice Fest.

1 Cart Method

Click “Book this Clinic” where indicated and it will add that product to your cart. Go through each day and add the clinics or seminars you want to attend, then when you are done click on “View Cart” and go through the registration process. You will have the option to register multiple attendees when you register for the clinics.

Ice Festival Clinics Information

  • The 2017 Festival Clinics will be held January 19, 20, 21, & 22, 2017.

  • Clinic Schedules are available by navigating the tabs on this page, i.e. the “Fri. AM” tab corresponds to all the clinics that are available for registration on that day – Friday Morning, and so on and so forth for Saturday and Sunday.

  • Online Clinic Registration will begin at 0800 MST on Thursday November 17, 2016.

  • All registrations must be done online on this website using the secure registration process. Simply shop which clinics you would like to buy, click the “Book This Clinic” button, follow the prompts, submit your payment and you are registered. Registrations are non-refundable and subject to availability. Once a clinic or seminar fills with the max number of participants it will be sold out but you will have the option to add yourself to the wait list.

Ouray Ice Park

Essential Info

  • If you are a Ouray Ice Park Individual Member for the 2015/2016 Season, you will receive $10 off each clinic or seminar.  There will be two prices to choose from during the check out process. Ice Park Members should choose the “OIP Member” price. All others should select the Non-OIP Members Price.  Selection of the OIP Members Price is on the climber’s honor code system!! 
  • Not a member?? Click here to purchase your Ouray Ice Park Membership today!

  • You will register and pay online, then receive a confirmation via email shortly afterwards. This means you registered for the clinics listed in that email. If you need to make changes to your registration, please contact us at [email protected] and provide your order confirmation number.
  • In your confirmation email there will be a prompt to fill out our Acknowledgement of Risks and Liability Waiver Online. This must be done prior to the start of the Ouray Ice Festival or your space in the clinics will not be confirmed!!

  • There will be an additional Final Clinic Information email sent out to all clinic participants one week prior to the start of the Ice Fest on January 12, 2017.

  • Please note that there are no refunds for Ouray Ice Festival Clinics unless we are able to fill your spot on the clinic. If you need to cancel your clinic registration, please notify us by email and we will do our best to re-list your clinic spot so that it can be filled prior to the start of the ice fest. You will need to check back in with us after the ice fest to determine if we were able to fill your spot. If we are able to fill your spot, a voucher towards a future trip with SJMG (less a 20% re-booking fee) may be issued.

Clinic & Seminar Descriptions

Clinics are 2.5 hours long. There will be between 6-8 participants in each climbing clinic. Up to 10 in non-climbing clinics. These will be instructed by one Sponsor Athlete per clinic.

Seminars are 5.5 hours long. There will be 8 participants in each seminar. Seminars will be instructed by one Sponsor Athlete, there will also be a SJMG Guide assigned to each Seminar.

Clinics are $59, Seminars are $119.  Backcountry Full Day Seminars are $179.  Ouray Ice Park Members will receive $10 off each clinic or seminar they register for.

Clinics will be held in the Schoolroom, Trestle, Kids Wall, Popsicle, Fingers, and Scottish Gullies areas. Seminars will be in South Park and the Sh!thouse Wall areas. All of these areas will be closed to the public and competitors all day Friday and Saturday, and until 12pm on Sunday.

At the Ice Fest:

Make sure you have all your gear together at least 15 minutes before the start of your clinic.To get a Festival gear card to demo gear from sponsors, go to the Festival Information Booth with your Driver’s License and Credit Card. Once you have your Gear Card, go to the different Sponsors to demo all of the required gear. We recommend you bring your own gear as well if you have it, especially harness and helmet.

Once you have all your gear together, go to the appropriate clinic sponsor tent. I.e. if you registered for Clinic #3 Intermediate Ice. La Sportiva. Will Mayo. FRI 0900 – Go To the La Sportiva tent at 0845 with your gear, ready to sign a release form and head out.
